Nowhere has the 5-A-DAY message been more prominent than within the education sector, where schools are required to follow a comprehensive set of Government guidelines.
From 2008 new legislation will further outline the nutrient based standards that schools will need to provide for lunches over five consecutive school days. These are detailed and quantifiable nutrient targets and will be used alongside food-based standards to ensure a balanced and healthy diet for children throughout the school day. The new standards encourage the availability of a variety of fruit and vegetables along with pure fruit juice, yogurt and milk drinks.
