Isle of Wight Tomatoes

Did you know that in the UK, we consume an incredible 500,000 tonnes of tomatoes each year? As the British tomato season arrives, it brings with it the much-anticipated return of our Isle of Wight tomato range—celebrated for its exceptional taste, vibrant colours, and sustainable growing practices.

All fresh produce available to Brakes customers is supplied by Fresh Direct, the UK’s leading wholesale greengrocer. Through their partnership with Isle of Wight Tomatoes, chefs can access some of the juiciest, most flavoursome tomatoes around—including cherry, plum, beef, and heritage varieties. These premium tomatoes enhance the visual appeal and bring added depth of flavour to your dishes, making them perfect for summer menus.

Isle of Wight Tomatoes

Founded in 2007, Isle of Wight Tomatoes is known for producing tomatoes that deliver outstanding taste and innovation. Benefiting from the island’s abundant sunshine—the highest in the UK—each tomato is left to ripen fully on the vine, nurturing a deeper flavour profile.

The company collaborates with global seed specialists to trial over 200 new varieties, continually seeking out the best options for future crops. A dedicated taste panel rigorously evaluates every variety to ensure chefs receive only the finest produce.

Perfect for your menu

From the sweet burst of cherry tomatoes to the robust, meaty texture of beef tomatoes, this range is ideal for a variety of dishes. Use them to create vibrant salads, fresh bruschetta, rich tomato sauces, or slow-roasted garnishes that enhance your plates with bold, natural flavours. Here our chef has used Coeur de boeuf tomatoes to make a carpaccio with whipped feta, micro basil, olive oil, balsamic jelly and rocket.

Sustainability at the heart of every harvest

Sustainability is a core commitment at Isle of Wight Tomatoes. The farm employs a number of eco-friendly growing techniques to reduce environmental impact while maintaining top-tier quality. This includes natural pollination, where native bumblebees pollinate 40 varieties of tomato across 27 hectares of glasshouses, ensuring strong, healthy crops. All crop waste is recycled to enrich organic soil, supporting a self-sustaining ecosystem, and rainwater is harvested and repurposed for irrigation, minimizing waste.

These sustainability efforts were recognized with B Corp Certification in late 2024, a testament to the farm’s dedication to responsible business practices that benefit both people and the planet.
